Rehendhi School.

Rehendhi School, a public school located in suburban Hulhumale’, has switched to online classes in the wake of the recent fire incident.

The fire broke out at Rehendhi at around 06:30 am Monday. The fire appeared to have originated from the switch board on the fourth and fifth floors of the school.

The fire was put out by firefighters at 07:19 am, but forced the school to cancel classes.

In a statement Monday evening, Education Ministry said State Electric Company (STELCO) was repairing damages to the school’s power network.

The repair work is expected to be complete and regular classes to resume on Sunday, said the Education Ministry.

Education Ministry said that in the interest of ensuring undisrupted education to students, classes will be held online in the meantime, starting Tuesday.

Rehendhi School has shared the timetable for online classes with parents, and additional information will be provided via class Viber groups, said the Education Ministry.

“As such, classes will be held via Google Meet, work will be assigned to students via Viber, and worksheets and field trips will also be organized,” said the Education Ministry.

The fire incident in Rehendhi did not result in any injuries.
