HDC schedules cleanup event to combat increased dengue cases

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced a major clean-up event at Hulhumale’ to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds in light of the increased dengue cases in the Maldives.

‘Dengue Ijaaba’ is scheduled to take place on next Saturday.

During this cleanup event, mosquito breeding grounds will be cleaned, and eradicated.

HDC requests the participation of all in the event, to combat possible spread of dengue in Hulhumale’.

Apart from the general public, the company also noted that different government authorities, schools and non-governmental organizations will be taking part in the cleanup event.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has also warned the public to exercise caution regarding increased dengue cases in the Maldives.

In October alone, Maldives recorded four dengue-related deaths. Two out of the four deaths were on October 11; a nine-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man.

A 19-year-old youth who was being treated at ADK Hospital for dengue also succumbed to the disease on October 4. A day before that, an 8-year-old girl passed away whilst being treated for dengue.
