High Court Judge Shuaib prepares to retire

High Court Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya who is preparing to retire.

High Court Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya has decided to retire, after serving 11 years at the court.

Judicial Service Commission’s (JSC) Izmeera Shiham told Sun on Monday that the commission decided to accept a request from Shuaib regarding his retirement on Sunday.

Although JSC accepted Shuaib’s decision to retire, a specific date for his retirement has not been set yet. Such a date will be decided after concluding the cases he is overseeing, or after completing the handover of the cases he handles to another judge.

Shuaib was appointed to the High Court on March 26, 2011.

He attained his LLB from Qatar University, Qatar in 1997. He completed his Master's in Comparative Law from International Islamic University Malaysia in 2006.

Shuaib has served as a legal officer and a special judge at the Ministry of Justice. Apart from High Court, he also worked as a judge at the Family Court and Civil Court  and as the chief judge at Juvenile Court. 

Shuaib taught at Majeedhiyaa School  and served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Sharia and law.

Abdulla Ali, who was serving as a judge at Civil Court, also retired back in August, after 36 years of service.
