Flydubai to bridge Gan-Dubai with direct flights starting February 2023

Dubai-based low-cost airline, Flydubai, has announced its decision to commence direct flights between Dubai and Gan International Airport in the southernmost Maldivian atoll, Addu City, starting February of next year.

The airline is set to commence daily operations to Gan International Airport starting February 4, 2023. It will mark as the second airport the airline is operating to in the Maldives, and the first carrier from UAE to operate to the airport.

Commencement of daily operations to Gan International Airport will increase the carrier’s frequency to Maldives to 28 flights per week.

Commenting on the launch of Gan operations – Flydubai’s CEO Ghaith Al-Ghaith said that Maldives continue to hail as one of the most popular leisure destinations for the airline’s customers from UAE, GCC and CIS.

“The start of our daily flights to the southern island of Gan will give our passengers more options to travel to the beautiful Maldives. This new service will reduce the commute time whether by boat or seaplane for those staying in resorts in the southern atolls,” he stressed.

Ghaith also noted that the additional frequency will support connecting traffic from Europe as well.

Flydubai reports that Emirates will codeshare on the Dubai-Gan route – which will provide passengers with more options for connections through Dubai International Airport (DBX.

Return business class fares from DBX-Gan start at AED 7,400, while economy class fares start at AED 4,050. Meanwhile, return business class fares from Gan-DBX start at USD 1,600, with economy class fares starting at USD 550.

Earlier this month, Flydubai also announced plans to launch operations between Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport and Velana International Airport in November.

The low-cost airline initially commenced operations to the Maldives, in 2013, via direct flights to Velana International Airport, which they still continue to operate to.
