Drug kingpin arrested in special operation

A man suspected of trafficking drugs in Male’ City on a large scale, has been arrested.

The 20-year-old man was arrested during a special operation carried out last night on a tip received to Police’s drug intelligence. However, they did not disclose any further details regarding the suspect.

Police said that the man was searched at Thuhravaas Goalhi in Henveiru during a special operation carried out collaboratively by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and Intelligence during which a large quantity of drugs, enough to qualify one as a suspect of drug trafficking, were discovered on the man, and subsequently, seized.

The case is under further investigation by the Police’s DED.

Drug trafficking is one the most pressing issues in the Maldives, resulting in the police carrying out large scaled counter-narcotic operations recently. Such operations saw the seizure of great quantities of drugs, and the arrests of many.
