Maldives-Bahrain sign four key agreements to strengthen bilateral relations

Four key agreements have been executed between Maldives and Bahrain as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s ongoing state visit to the country.

The agreements were exchanged during a special ceremony at the Qudaibiya Palace in Bahrain on Thursday, which was presided by President Solih and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

These agreements are;

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations signed between the Foreign Ministry of Bahrain and the Foreign Ministry of Maldives.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Cooperation on Diplomatic Training and Exchange of Information and Documentation signed between the Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry’s Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies and Foreign Ministry of Maldives.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Area of Youth and Sports Development signed between the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain and Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of Maldives.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Climate Change, between Supreme Council for Environment of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Environment Ministry of Maldives.

During the ceremony, two additional agreements were also announced. The first agreement pertains to inclusion of Maldives as a sea-to-air partner which provides access to Bahrain’s global sea-to-air logistics hub, and the second agreement grants Maldives sovereignty over the data of its beneficiaries in Bahrain-based data centres.

Before the agreement exchange ceremony, President Solih and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held a one-on-one discussion at the Qudaibiya Palace where discussed bilateral relations between both countries.
