Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom, on Monday, remarked that local youths of today are capable of taking the Maldivian tourism sector to new heights.
Speaking during the Tourism Golden Year Gala Evening held at Kurumba Maldives on Monday night – Minister Mausoom said that youths possessed new and revolutionary ideas and visions on how to further the tourism sector.
Therewith, he said the future of the tourism sector is much brighter than at present.
Underscoring the many difficulties faced within the Maldivian tourism sector over the past years, Minister Mausoom described achievements in overcoming the difficulties by the guidance of industry experts, and the hard work of industry staff as an outstanding example set for the world.
He exampled achievements by the Maldivian tourism sector in overcoming the great tsunami of 2004, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic as an example continuously praised, and referred to across the world.
Tourism was incepted in the Maldives in 1972, with the opening of the first tourist resort Kurumba Village in Male’ Atoll Vihamanaafushi on October 3. At present, Maldives is one of the leading tourist destinations across the world, with thousands of tourists visiting the nation every year.
The Tourism Golden Year Gala Evening held last night which marks as the final event hosted by the Ministry of Tourism to commemorate the 50th anniversary of tourism in the Maldives saw the President’s Tourism Gold Award conferred to 77 individuals in recognition of their contribution to the Maldives' tourism industry's success over the last 50 years.
