The Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thoyyib Mohamed has stated that Maldives is victorious in tourism due to the hard work done despite the looming fear of the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Speaking at the grand function held at Dharubaaruge on Sunday night to mark National Tourism Day, he went on to say that with the completion of successful 50 years in tourism, the last three years held up to that.
He said that Maldives was able to move past tourism coming to a complete halt with Covid-19, due to the decisions made by the government leaders.
“Because of the strategic steps taken to protect from Covid, Maldivian borders opened before other countries. Showing the world that tourism can go on even with the pandemic.”
Moreover, Thoyyib stated that President Solih keeps a close eye on the work of MMPRC, with special care given during the height of the pandemic.
Despite overcoming the Covid times, Thoyyib noted that there were challenges to promoting Maldives. This includes some of the markets still remaining close.
Furthermore, he said that the title of leading destination has already been achieved, and the work must be done to retain it, adding that it is not an easy task.
“MMPRC’s team is ready to work in that manner,” said Thoyyib.
