Addu accident: Victim undergoing treatment in IGMH

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Thursday revealed that the pedestrian run over by a truck in an accident in Addu’s Hithadhoo district is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

CCTV footage from the area shows the male pedestrian walking on the side of the road, and a truck hitting him from behind and running him over.

The incident took place at approximately 18:10 pm and left the man with critical injuries.

A media official from IGMH revealed to Sun that the 40-year-old man was being treated in the hospital emergency room.

However, the hospital refrained from sharing further information pertaining to his injuries.

A local from Hithadhoo who spoke with Sun soon after the incident said that the victim had sustained critical injuries to his face, head, and other parts of his body, including his lungs.

“He suffered extensive damage to his internal organs. They are working on transferring him to Male’,” said the local.

 Maldives Police Services said that the accident is currently under investigation.
