Housing Development Corporation (HDC), on Tuesday, has warned the public of spam messages being circulated by a party impersonating the company.

In this regard, they said that no messages will be sent by the company under the name ‘HDC.mv’. It was underscored that the spam messages provided a link to a portal named ‘Hiyaa Safety Portal’, instructing to access it.

“We stress that no messages under this name will be sent by this corporation. Moreover, we also note that a portal under the name ‘Hiyaa Safety Portal’ is not by this used by this corporation to communicate with Hiyaa tenants,” a statement by HDC read.

Such links are included in spam messages to extort personal information of persons accessing the link. The information is sought to fraudulently conduct financial transactions through internet banking and such.

HDC strongly advised against accessing such links. They have also instructed recipients receiving spam messages to share the information with the company by contacting them at 3353535.

Extorting money through spam calls and spam messages have become so common in the Maldives in recent times – with people falling victims to such schemes incurring huge financial losses.
