JP, DRP discuss forming coalition

Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim have held a meeting to discuss ways in which the two parties can cooperate.

JP said in a short press statement released today that the two leaders met and discussed cooperating at the Parliament, as well as on other issues.

“The two leaders, as per the advice of their respective party councils, discussed ways to move forward through cooperation,” JP said via the statement.

No details have been disclosed yet about how the two parties would cooperate at the Parliament.

DRP Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader Abdullah Mausoom said that deliberations in this regard are under way, but no details can be provided just yet.

JP Spokesperson Moosa Rameez said that the party was not informed of any such discussions.

Meanwhile, the Parliament voting on establishing secret voting for no-confidence motions has been put on the agenda for tomorrow.

Voting on this motion filed to Parliament by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), was held some weeks ago as well. It was not passed, however some MPs of DRP and JP sided with MDP.
