Maldives Police Service, on Wednesday, has stated that efforts were underway to locate suspects that fled the country in the probe of homosexuality cases.
A string of videos showing men engage in sexual relations with Bangladeshi sex worker, Alamgiri, has been leaked from June onwards. In an earlier statement, Police have stated that cases pertaining to homosexuality are being investigated as serious matters.
Some of the men in the video has been identified following which travel ban orders have been obtained against them. However, it was confirmed by the police today that some of the suspects had already left the country when the travel ban orders against them were issued.
Nevertheless, Police stressed that the investigations against the men were still underway. They also assured to do everything possible within the investigative procedure to locate the suspects.
Alamgiri who is accused of engaging in sexual relations with many men, and videotaping the acts currently remain in police custody.
Prominent lawyer and Parliament Speaker’s Mohamed Nasheed’s younger brother Nazim Sattar, a police officer working in the Drug Enforcement Department, Abdul Rahman Rafeeu and former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed) have also been arrested for engaging in sexual relations with Alamgiri.
Education Ministry, on Friday, confirmed that some male teachers have been suspended over engaging in sexual relations with Alamgiri.
Home Ministry has also confirmed the suspension of an employee over suspicions of engaging in homosexual relations.
An employee working at People’s Majlis and two from Maldives Customs have also been suspended over suspicions of engaging in homosexual relations. However, it is unclear whether their cases relate to Alamgiri’s.
Ibrahim Rafiu who was serving as a Senior Executive Director at the National Centre for the Holy Quran was terminated from his post yesterday over a leaked video which allegedly shows him engaging in homosexual relations with Alamgiri. A muezzin working at a Hulhumale’ mosque have also been accused of engaging in homosexual relations with Alamgiri.
An officer serving in Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) was also confirmed to have been suspended on Tuesday over engaging in sexual relations with Alamgiri.
Sun has learned that over 100 people engaged in homosexual relations with Alamgiri.
