Although several local media outlets have reported that a firework display would be held in Male’ City in celebration of Independence Day tomorrow night – Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has stated that they are unaware of any such plans.
Media outlets, citing police, reported that a firework display will be held in Male’ City at 9:00pm tomorrow night.
However, a media official from MNDF told Sun today that if a firework display is being held – the specific locations would be announced much earlier.
“Do not understand why media outlets published that news. If there is a firework display, we will announce much earlier. Therewith, there are no plans to hold a firework display tomorrow night,” the media official had said.
In line with the government’s policy to cut down expenditure – the official reception and float parade planned for Independence Day has been canceled.
Nevertheless, a flag hoisting ceremony will be held on Tuesday morning at 6:00pm – whilst a military parade will kick off in Male’ City roads at 4:00pm in the evening.
