NAKAI Alimathà Resort run at V. Alimatha has been fined by MVR 312,750 (Three Hundred and Twelve Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty) for discarding waste into sea.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that the resort had discarded biodegradable waste in violation of the provisions under Waste Management Regulation.
Therewith, the Agency said that the resort has been fined under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act.
EPA stressed that the resort has been instructed to make the fine payment within 30 days.
As per the Waste Management Regulation, those violating its provisions faces hefty fines – with those discarding waste into sea facing the largest fines.
