Maldives Hajj Corporation states that the corporation alone was granted the opportunity by the government to send pilgrims for the annual hajj pilgrimage this year.

In a statement on Monday evening, Maldives Hajj Corporation said the government made the decision because of lack of time to accept and evaluate proposals from private organizations this year.

Saudi Arabia granted quota for 453 Maldivian pilgrims this year.

Maldives Hajj Corporation said that applications will be opened to the general public for 100 spots, in order to grant members of the general public who have not paid money to any private organization for hajj pilgrimage the opportunity to perform the pilgrimage this year.

Maldives Hajj Corporation said that those in queue with the corporation will also receive the opportunity to perform the hajj pilgrimage this year.

The corporation said it will announce application guidelines at a later date.

Countries across the world had received limited quotas for hajj pilgrimage this year, as Saudi Arabia continues to take measures to control the spread of COVID-19. Islamic Ministry has stated it is working on securing a larger quota for Maldivian pilgrims.
