An expert from Australia has arrived in the Maldives and begun working with Maldives Police, to assist with efforts to prevent crime and restore peace in the society.
The services of retired Neil Furdson of Victoria Police are provided under the United National Development Programme’s (UNDP) Integrated Governance Programme. Furdson currently acts as a consultant on strengthening the law enforcement sector.
Police said that Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz met Furdson yesterday morning. During the meeting, the Commissioner briefed the consultant on Maldives Police’s ongoing efforts to reduce crime.
Maldives Police have informed that Furdson will work in their Public Affairs Department for the next two weeks. During this time, ongoing efforts to reduce crime will be studied, and recommendations will be made to improve and strengthen crime prevention efforts.
