Maldives National University (MNU) has announced the decision to offer free accounting and finance courses.
MNU said the courses are offered in collaboration with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) of the United Kingdom.
The university said it made the decision to offer the free courses in order to enhance the skills of local workers.
MNU said it chose accounting due to the shortage of local accountants in Maldives.
MNU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shareef said the courses will be an easy path to employment.
“Accounting is a field that offers a good income. I hope a lot of students join this,” he said.
The courses are Certificate Level IV courses.
Students who have completed grade 10 or have experience in the field are eligible to apply for the eight-month courses.
The deadline for applications is May 22.
Students can apply for the courses online.
The courses will begin on May 29.
The course fees, including tuition, will be covered by the Economic Ministry. Students who enroll in the courses will also receive a monthly living allowance of MVR 5,000.
“It will not cost the students anything. All expenses will be covered by the Economic Ministry,” said Shareef.
