WAMCO contracted to clean public areas in Hulhumale’

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has been contracted for the cleaning of public areas in Hulhumale’ by Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Representing their respective corporations – the agreement pertaining to work was signed at a special ceremony held at HDC today by WAMCO’s Deputy Managing Director Yoosuf Siraj and HDC’s Managing Director Suhail Ahmed.

HDC detailed that the agreement was executed for the purpose of ensuring the cleanliness of public spaces in Hulhumale’ and the separation of waste materials collected from the suburb in a more permanent manner.

Under this agreement, WAMCO is tasked with cleaning the roads opened for public use at Hulhumale’ along with the pavements and trees plants on them as well as parks and beach area.

WAMCO said they would be collecting commonly ‘littered’ waste from the tasked areas following sweeps. They include plastic bottles, cans, plastic bags, paper, leaves and packagings amongst other things.  

This agreement will be in force for a period of three years.

HDC has highlighted matters individuals residing at Hulhumale’ should pay attention to in order to ensure the cleanliness of the suburb. They are:

• Registration for waste collection with WAMCO by households that are yet to be registered
• Registration for waste collection with WAMCO by cafés, hotels and other businesses
• Opting for WMACO’s Call and Pickup Service (CAPS) for heavy waste
• Immediate cessation of placing waste bags on roads due to not being registered for waste collection

HDC underscored the importance of Hulhumale’ residents’ cooperation in such matters and urged them to carry out their duties to the society in ensuring the cleanliness of the suburb.

WAMCO has now announced to find cleaners for cleaning Hulhumale’ public spaces under this agreement.
