Housing Development Corporation (HDC) states it is engaged in discussions regarding establishing permanent food stalls near the Hiyaa housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

HDC had ordered the removal of the current food stalls in the area last week.

HDC said that given the heavy construction work in progress in the area, the food offered at the stalls did not meet hygiene standards, and the corporation had received complaints it could cause illness.

The corporation also said that the stalls were being operated without taking necessary permits from relevant institutions, and in violation of regulations.

HDC gave until April 10 to voluntarily remove the stalls, and have begun removing the stalls of vendors who refused to comply.

HDC said it continues to urge vendors to voluntarily remove their stalls.

“We continue to urge you to remove such stalls yourself,” said HDC.

HDC said it understood the high demand for food stalls in the area, and was engaged in discussions to grant permanent permits and establish permanent food stalls in the area.

The corporation said it could evaluate the best course of action.

However, HDC stressed that the current food stalls did not meet hygiene standards, and urged vendors to remove the stalls.
