Islamic Ministry states the shipment of dates donated by the Saudi government was expected to arrive in Maldives in the last 10 days of Ramadan.

The Saudi government donates dates to Maldives for Ramadan each year.

Islamic Ministry’s media official Ismail Afrah told Sun on Saturday that the reason for the delay in the delivery of the dates this year was unclear.

“The Saudi Embassy said the dates have been shipped. We expect it to arrive in the last 10 days of Ramadan,” he said.

The Saudi government usually donates 50 tonnes of dates to Maldives for Ramadan each year.

Afrah said the Islamic Ministry has not been informed of the quantity of dates donated this year.

“We will share all the information as it becomes available to us,” he said.
