Thinadhoo Police Station attack suspects' trial postponed due to exams

The trial against the four suspects involved in the attack on Gdh. Thinadhoo Police Station on 8 February 2012 has been postponed until next month, because one of the suspects is taking the GCE O'level Exams.

An official of Juvenile Court said that the trial has been postponed until 17 December.

The age of the four suspects, charged with terrorism, is 17.

The four minors are accused of causing damage to Gdh. Thinadhoo Police Station and attacking Police Officers between 4:30pm and 8:30pm on 8 February 2012. They are also suspected of forcibly entering Gdh. Council Office on the same day.

They are charged under article 6 (b), with reference to article 2 (f,g) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

Article 6 (b) states that any person found guilty of the act of terrorism shall be sentenced to between 10 and 15 years imprisonment or banishment.

During the unrest on 8 February 2012, fire was set to the Magistrate Court, the Police Station and the Council Office in the island.

Meanwhile, 87 people have been charged with terrorism for torching government buildings and vehicles at the Police Station in Gdh. Thinadhoo. Media Official of Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that this trial has not yet been scheduled.
