JP Council passes Ameen as Transport Minister

The Council of Jumhooree Party (JP) passed last night to propose the party's Vice President and Chairman of VTV, Ameen Ibrahim, to the government as the next Minister of Transport.

If accepted by the government, Ameen will replace JP member Dr Ahmed Shamheed who was recently dismissed from his post as Transport Minister.

JP Spokesperson Moosa Rameez said that 15 out of 22 members present at last night's Council meeting voted in favour of proposing Ameen as the next Transport Minister.

Moosa informed that the name of JP Secretary General Hassan Shah was also suggested - however there was no voting for Shah as Ameen's name was passed by the Council.

Shah was suggested by Council member Alhan Fahmy and supported by JP President Dr Ibrahim Didi.

JP, which is part of the government coalition, earlier asked the government to reinstate Dr Ahmed Shamheed to the post of Transport Minister. This was rejected by the government.

Dr Didi has told media that should the Council pass to propose him to the post of Transport Minister, that proposition would be accepted by him.

Sun Online understands from reliable sources that Ameen was passed by the Council with strong backing from JP leader Gasim Ibrahim. This has however been denied by the party Spokesperson.
