3.3 kilo drugs attempted to be smuggled through post seized by Maldives Customs.

Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs attempted to be smuggled to Maldives through post, weighing in 3.3 kilograms.

Customs detailed that the drugs were seized from parcels imported to Maldives through post, upon searching them over suspicions.

In this regard, they detailed that suspicious substance found from a parcel searched on March 1, tested positive for MDMA (546 grams) and Mephedrone (585 grams) in the first phase of testing.

Meanwhile, Customs said that suspicious substances found from a parcel searched on March 11, tested positive for Cocaine, weighing 2.2 kilograms, during the first phase of testing.

Drugs attempted to be smuggled through post seized by Maldives Customs.

Noting that the total weight of the drugs seized measured at 3. 359 kilograms, Customs said that its street value will be over MVR 12 million.

The drugs which have been seized by Customs have now been handed over to the Police.

At the end of last January, Customs had established a Special Operations Tactical Team to further enhance efforts to counter drug trafficking. The team is currently in operation in Male’ area and atolls.
