Two people have been arrested in Aa. Thoddoo over arson charges.
Reports of a fire in Thoddoo – an island well known in Maldives for farming and agriculture – have been ongoing for a while in the forest areas of the island according to residents.
“While trying to find out who has been doing this, a fire broke out near a guest house. Then while looking through the CCTV footage from the guesthouse, two people were seen very clearly doing this (arson),” told a resident of Thoddoo who spoke to Sun.
Two men, 38 and 52 years of age were arrested by Maldives Police Service on Thursday, March 3, in connection to the case.
“Those two have been growing vegetation in the island and are from this island. So cannot think of any reason why they would set the fire,” said a farmer from Thoddoo.
Additionally, a guesthouse owner from the island noted that while there were some damages sustained due to these fires, some of the tourists who visit the island have also complained of this issue.
