Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has invited a group of writers and editors from the Middle East to visit Maldives on a familiarization trip.

According to MMPRC, the team made up of “major luxury and lifestyle publications of the Middle East, particularly from Saudi Arabia”, will be in Maldives from March 4 to the 10th. They also revealed that the team will be hosted in Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort and Kuramathi Maldives.

During the visit, the team will familiarize themselves with Maldivian hospitality and unique experiences offered by Maldives for visitors, particularly for luxury travellers.

MMPRC detailed that after the visit, the team will publish articles and writings on Maldivian hospitality, which the corporation hopes “will help maintain momentum and increase booking and arrivals from countries like Saudi Arabia from the Middle East.”

Noting that this will grant Maldives the perfect opportunity to promote itself as a safe haven for travellers from the region, MMPRC stated that the visiting team will post on their individual social media platforms in addition to the articles and publications.

“This trip is part of MMPRC’s marketing strategy for the Middle Eastern market, which focuses on building greater brand awareness and promoting different segments of tourism available in the Maldives for luxury, family and honeymoon travellers from this market.”

Additionally, MMPRC said that the purpose of these activities is to provide the latest information about travel guidelines, promote resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards, advocate the stingiest health and safety measures in place, promote the unique experiences of Maldives. It also emphasizes promoting the unique geography of the islands, which provides natural social distance for tourists.

Statistics revealed that Maldives received 3,189 arrivals from Saudi Arabia in the month of January 2022. The country was also among one of the top source markets in 2021, as well, ranking 6th overall.

To further expand the market in the region, MMPRC has been conducting several activities targeting Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle Eastern market, including joint campaigns, participation in major fairs, exhibitions, roadshows, webinars, and FAM trips.

Hence for this year, MMPRC said that they have planned participation in prominent fairs such as the Arabian Travel Market 2022, ILTM Arabia 2022, and Riyadh Travel Fair 2022, as well as activities such as the Maldives Roadshow in Dubai, Media FAM Trips, and other marketing campaigns targeted at the Middle Eastern Market.
