Finance Ministry asked to write off fines owed by Sinamale’ tenants

Male’ City Council has appealed to the Finance Ministry to write off fines owed by tenants of the Sinamale’ and the Male’ Hiyaa social housing units.

Male’ City Council had originally pushed to have the fines owed by tenants in Sinamale’ 1, Sinamale’ 2, Sinamale’ 3, Male’ Hiyaa 1 and Male’ Hiyaa 2 in Male’ City, and Sinamale’ 4 in Vilimale’, written off by approaching the President's Office back in February.

However, the President’s Office instructed the Male’ City Council to approach the Finance Ministry on matters of fines.

“In accordance with the instructions of the President’s Office, we have submitted a letter to the Finance Ministry asking them to write off the fines owed by the flats,” said Male’ City Council’s spokesperson Mariyam Shiuna.

 Vilimale’ councilwoman Nahula Ali told Sun fines owned by tenants of the flats were last written off in 2018.
