Male’ City Council has decided to request the government that the allowance of late Vilimale’ representative on Male’ City Council’s Women’s Development Committee (WDC), Aminath Eman, 29, who passed away from critical injuries sustained in an accident in Hulhumale’, be issued to her family.

Male’ City Council made the decision at a meeting held today.

The proposal was put forward at the meeting by Vilimale’ Councilor Nahula Ali, which was seconded by Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh.

The proposal read that the monthly MVR 5,000 allowance received by WDC members be issued to Eman’s family, till what would be the conclusion of her term.

The proposal was approved by the unanimous votes of all members who were present for today’s meeting.

Speaking to Sun regarding the matter, Councilor Nahula said that at the time of Eman’s death, she had two children – therefore she believed, the children are entitled to an allowance received by the mother.

Eman was driving along Kuredhi Magu in Hulhumale’ on Sunday evening when she fell off her motorcycle.

She remained unconscious, and was put on a ventilator on Sunday night.

Eman was alone on the road when the accident took place. She was transported to the hospital approximately 20 minutes later, after a passerby saw her collapsed on the ground.

A WDC member who spoke to Sun said Eman fell when she hit a speedbump on the road. She said that paint on the speedbump was faded, and that she was believed to have fallen when she hit the speedbump as she hadn’t seen it.

“What happened was, because the paint on the speedbump was so faded. She didn’t see the speedbump. So she went over the speedbump at high speed. She was thrown on impact and fell on top of the speedbump,” she said.

Eman was initially treated at the Hulhumale’ Hospital before she was transferred to the ADK Hospital in Male’ City.

She passed away on Tuesday morning.
