ADK successfully completes first TAVI procedure in Maldives

ADK Hospital has made history with the successful completion of the first ever Trans-Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure in Maldives.

TAVI is a procedure that replaces diseased heart valves without need for open heart surgery in carefully selected patients.

ADK Hospital, the largest private hospital in Male’ City, has announced they have successfully completed the procedure on an 81-year-old Maldivian man.

The procedure was carried out by a team of specialists. They are:

  • Dr. Saisatish - Senior Interventional Cardiologist
  • Dr. Mohamed Shafiu - Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon
  • Dr.  Kaushal Kishore Tiwari - Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon
  • Dr. Diwas Manandhar - Senior Consultant in Anesthesia
  • Medtronic Therapy Development Specialist
  • Junail Kurungottu - Cathlab Technician

Heart valves are usually replaced with open heart surgery. The successful procedure by ADK Hospital marks the first time for a heart valve to be replaced in Maldives using the less invasive TAVI procedure.
