COVID-19: 1,056 new cases; 15,706 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 1,056 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 162,169.     

According to HPA, the 1,056 new cases include; 146 cases from the greater Male’ region, 792 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 59 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 1,132 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 146,161.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 15,706 active cases.      

There are 26 patients in hospitals.      

4,374 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,408 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 10 percent. 

With the 1,056 new infections on Wednesday, 7,658 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

February 16: 1,056 cases 

February 15: 1,037 cases 

February 14: 1,015 cases 

February 13:  1,030 cases 

February 12:  1,128 cases 

February 11:  986 cases 

February 10:  1,406 cases 

Maldives has recorded 289 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month. 

As of Tuesday, 398,010 people have received their first dose and 370,594 people have been fully vaccinated, and 112,551 have received their booster dose
