Male’ City Council has decided to give two allowances to its staff, in a move to improve the services provided by the Council to the people.

Whilst it was discussed to introduce an attendance allowance for Male’ City Council staff – different categories of staff were proposed different rates per day for the allowance. Rates were divided to three categories; MVR 35, MVR 50 and MVR 75.

Following debate, members of the Council felt that all staff should receive the same rate for attendance – therefore, had passed to give attendance allowance at the same rate to all staff.

Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that their decision will increase the salaries of Male’ City Council staff by MVR 1,650.

He further detailed that the best employee from each department will be selected once in every three months – whereas that employee will be rewarded with an allowance.

“If the selection of best employee once in every three months is from each department, the particular staff of that department will receive an additional MVR 1,000. This has been decided,” he had said.

The decision to give an attendance allowance and the selection of the best employee from each department who will be rewarded with a certificate and a bonus was passed by the unanimous vote of all Council members who attended today’s meeting.
