DRP has said that they will not hold any protest against starting flights between Israel and Maldives.
They said that if they do so, the Maldives may face difficulties in dealing with the outside world.
Ibrahim Shareef, Deputy Leader of DRP said that the party does not in any way support operation of flights between Israel and Maldives, however, any public demonstrations with regard to this issue may not be seen positively by the outside world.
“This is an international issue. It is a dealing between independent nations. We have to think before we act on things related to international and large countries’ interests. We do not support flights between Israel and Maldives in any way,” Shareef said.
He said that the government has been informed that DRP does not support this, and has been advised to not proceed. Even though DRP will not initiate any demonstrations, they will participate if a protest is held by another party with regard to this issue.
“We do not want to hold a protest, however if another party wishes to do so, we will support and participate in it,” Shareef said.
Adil Saleem, Minister of Transport said earlier that El Al Airline of Israel has been granted permission to fly to Maldives, however the date these operations will begin is not known.
The relevant officials of the government have been summoned to the National Defense Committee, for the investigation of a case submitted by Vice President of Adhaalath Party regarding operation of flights between Maldives and Israel.
