President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed his administration’s plans to develop additional 2,000 housing units in Hulhumale’ – in an effort to address the housing issues faced by Male’ residents
President Solih made the remark whilst delivering the annual presidential address at the opening sitting of the Parliament for the year 2022.
In this regard, he said that housing issues for the residents of Male’ are especially prominent – adding that he feels there have been more talks than concrete action to address the problem.
As part of the administration’s plan to address the problem – President Solih revealed work is due to begin on additional 2,000 housing units in Hulhumale’.
“I would like to state today that work on the 5,000 housing units I announced here last year has been underway in Hulhumalé. Work is due to begin on 2,000 additional housing units in Hulhumalé,” he had said.
Speaking further, President Solih also revealed plans to issue land plots to permanent residents of Male’; being 1,000 land plots from Hulhumale’, at least 2,000 land plots from Gulhifalhu and 2,000 land plots from the land which will be reclaimed at Giraavaru lagoon.
He gave assurance that housing opportunities will be provided for all those in need prior to the end of his presidential term.
“God willing, land will be provided to the permanent residents of Malé in gravest need of housing as promised, by the end of this administrative term. Access to State resources should be guaranteed for all. Our goal is to work together to reach the same destination,” he had said.
Highlighting housing projects in the atolls, President Solih noted that 2,180 houses are being built through programs. He also noted that 82 individuals will receive over MVR 42 million by the ‘Gedhoruveriyaa’ loan scheme.
