JSC to appeal Judge Abdullah case

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appeal Civil Court's ruling to annul JSC's decision that Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed is guilty of misconduct.

JSC Media Official Hassan Zaheen said today that the decision to appeal the case was made some time ago.

JSC found Judge Abdullah guilty of misconduct following the report by DhiTV News, on 16 July 2009, of a comment made by Judge Abdullah about former President Mohamed Nasheed's government.

JSC's decision was annulled by Civil Court on 25 July 2012.

The Civil Court ruling details that the evidence presented by JSC's investigation team on this matter was not sufficient to prove that Judge Abdullah actually made that comment.

The Court also highlighted that JSC did not allow Judge Abdullah the opportunity to present his defence on this case.
