Campaign hall turned drug den burns down to ashes

PPM’s former campaign hall, ‘Rumaalu 2’ has been burned down to ashes after a fire broke out at the premise this afternoon.

During the second wave of COVID-19 which hit Maldives – the campaign hall was utilized as a flu clinic. When the flu clinic was dissolved, the campaign hall located behind Male’ Hiyaa flats turned to a drug den. Drug addicts used the premise as a place to abuse drugs at.

So far, the cause of the fire at the campaign hall built from metal bars and timber has been unidentified. A witness who was at a scene said that the fire broke out around 2:00pm.

MNDF said that the fire was reported to them at 2:47pm – following which MNDF’s Fire and Rescue team had commenced efforts to control the fire immediately. However, the place had already been burnt to ashes.

MNDF added that the fire was controlled at 3:08pm. They also noted they no one was injured in the incident.
