Island Aviation takes over management of Madivaru Airport

Island Aviation Services has signed an agreement to operate Madivaru Airport, an airport developed in Lh. Atoll by Kuredu Holdings. 

The agreement between Island Aviation and Kuredu Holdings was signed on Monday. 

Island Aviation said that it expects to open the airport and start Maldivian Airline’s scheduled flights in February. 

The construction work on the airport was contracted to China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group.   

The project agreement was signed on May 29, 2018.

Construction of the airport was completed and a test flight was successfully conducted to the airport on December 25, 2021.  

The airport in Madivaru has a 1,200-meter runway, an apron, a fire station, and a modern passenger terminal.  

It is the first airport in Lh. Atoll. 

Island Aviation currently operates three domestic airports; Dharavandhoo Airport, Thimarafushi Airport, and Ifuru Airport. The company also operates the Maafaru International Airport.
