Spectators barred from sports matches in Male’ City

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has barred spectators from attending sports matches of all kinds held in Male’ City.

An announcement signed by Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru publicized this evening – read that HPA had decided to enforce restrictive measures in light of the detection of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, in the Maldives.

In this regard, they have barred holding sports competitions and matches with the participation of spectators.

In addition to this, events and ceremonies that involved the attendance of more than 50 people have also been barred.

The announcement also read that night markets in Male’ City have also been barred.

These restrictive measures will be effective starting tomorrow.

The number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19 in the Male’ area has significantly increased over the past week – with over 100 cases being recorded daily.
