UNGA President, Foreign Minister Shahid arrives in Maldives

President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid arrived in Maldives on Friday morning. 

This marks the first occasion he is visiting Maldives as Foreign Minister since taking office as the UNGA President in September 2021. 

The foreign minister is visiting to meet with the Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi, who is set to arrive in Maldives. 

Minister Yi is visiting Maldives after accepting an invitation accepted by Minister Shahid. 

Although Shahid retained the position of Foreign Minister after his election as UNGA President, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel is currently in charge of running the office.
