COVID-19: 228 new cases; 2,702 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 228 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 96,522.      

According to HPA, the 228 new cases include; 66 cases from the greater Male’ region, 60 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 97 cases from operational resorts, and 5 cases from liveaboards. 

Meanwhile, 134 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 93,544.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,702 active cases.      

There are 12 patients in hospitals.      

4,801 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,497 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 4 percent. 

With the 228 new infections on Tuesday, 1,300 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

January 4: 228 cases 

January 3: 242 cases 

January 2: 161 cases 

January 1: 191 cases 

December 31: 160 cases 

December 30: 120 cases 

December 29: 198 cases 

Maldives has recorded 263 COVID-19 deaths.
