President conveys condolences to family of the late Umar Zahir

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his deepest condolences to the family of the late Umar Zahir, a state dignitary and honoree of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin.  

Umar Zahir died in a hospital in Male’ City on Monday afternoon after testing positive for COVID-19. 

He was 85 years of age. 

President Solih spoke on the phone with Aminath Samiha Zahir, Umar Zahir’s daughter, and conveyed his sincerest condolences for their loss.  

He said he was deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of her late father, and extended his heartfelt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family. 

President Solih described Umar Zahir’s death as a loss to the nation, and spoke about some of Umar Zahir’s significant contributions to the development and progress of Maldives.  

Ending his call, President prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Umar Zahir’s soul eternal peace in Jannah.
