COVID-19: 92 new cases, 63 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 92 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 92,846.      

According to HPA, the 92 new cases include; 20 cases from the greater Male’ region, 63 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and nine cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 151 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 90,846.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,801 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

4,366 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,151 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 256 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 396,146 people have received their first dose and 365,332 people have been fully vaccinated, and 18,947 have received their booster dose.
