Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced dredging operations at Lh. Felivaru – under a major land reclamation and harbor development project worth MVR 113.39 million.
Dredging operations under the land reclamation and harbor development project at Felivaru initiated for the purpose of establishing additional facilities required in the island for fisheries operations – commenced on December 7. MTCC will be utilizing its Cutter Suction Dredger - Jarraafa2 for the operations.
The project was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on January 20 – to be completed within a period of one year.
According to MTCC, the scope of work under the project includes reclamation operations of 6 hectares; dredging operations of 229,663.36cbm; construction of a 220m quay wall; a 148m breakwater; a 270m revetment.
The land reclamation and harbor development project at Felivaru is funded with financial assistance from the Indian Government.
Planning Ministry said that the goal of this project is to establish a harbor for fisheries boats to port at, and reclaim the land needed to further develop cold storage facilities at Felivaru.
They further detailed that the cost of the project will be covered on a differed payment basis – within a period of four years.
