COVID-19 situation at Addu City still dire, after being placed under monitoring in August

The number of active cases in Addu City, which was placed under monitoring mechanisms in August, has consistently remained above 200 for a long time.

Addu City's Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo and Feydhoo were placed under monitoring mechanisms on August 28. The City's Hulhumeedhoo was placed under monitoring mechanisms on September 4.

As per Addu's Emergency Operation Center, a total of 12 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Addu City during the last 24 hours, increasing active cases up to 263.

Statistics publicized by Addu's Emergency Operation Center show that starting from October 29, the number of active cases in the city has not fallen below 200.

Three individuals are currently being treated at hospitals in Addu City, after being infected.

A total number of 2,798 people have tested positive for COVID-19 from Addu City as of present. Out of this, 2,525 people have made full recoveries.

With the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the City, additional restrictive measures were announced by Addu City Council last Monday, to curb the spread of the virus.

The measures include a ban on house visits and a ban on public gatherings – including sports competitions, ceremonies and functions.

The council has also ordered the suspension of extracurricular activities at schools – including competitions and ceremonies.

Meanwhile, the 21:00-04:00 hours curfew that has been in place, was announced to remain this way.
