The Audit Report of Youth Ministry for 2011 has revealed that public funds were misused by some former senior employees of the Ministry.
The report reveals that a former Minister of State at Youth Ministry did not attend work from 13 February to 31 May, despite having been denied his request to take vacation during this period. He was paid MVR165, 897 for this period, and was dismissed on 22 July 2012.
According to the Audit Report, only one out of the eight persons appointed to the Ministry by the President signed the daily attendance.
Also, while the official chits for appointing them to their posts exist, it is not clear how they served the Ministry. Their vacation and other administrative issues were also not monitored.
No names were disclosed in the report.
Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim recommended monitoring that employees of political posts comply with the rules, and taking action against those employees to whom funds were released without being monitored.
The report also highlighted lack of inventories for assets, missing assets, and wasteful expenses such as spending MVR1.4 million on hosting the International Beach Games in Maldives.
