Maldives recorded its youngest COVID-19 fatality on Wednesday, with the death of a two-month-old infant boy.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has yet to confirm the infant’s death as a COVID-19 fatality.
An official from HPA told Sun the infant’s body is at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility – a hospital for COVID-19 patients.
However, the official declined to comment on whether the infant died at the facility, or was taken there after he died.
The death of the infant, if confirmed by HPA as a COVID-19 fatality, will increase Maldives’ death toll from the virus to 247.
Maldives has 89,126 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 160 new cases recorded on Tuesday. 86,787 patients have since recovered.
The country currently has 2,080 active cases. 12 of the patients are hospitalized.
