Addu City warned against the spread of conjunctivitis, dengue and viral fever

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has warned against the spread of conjunctivitis, dengue and viral fever in Addu City.

In an announcement made by the hospital yesterday – they noted that the number of people testing positive for conjunctivitis, dengue and viral fever from Addu City has recently increased. On this note – the hospital advised residents to take precautions against the diseases.

Noting that some cases of conjunctivitis, dengue and viral fever have been reported recently from Addu City – AEH’s Senior Customer Relations Officer Shaafy Mohamed told Sun that the announcement was made so that residents can take precaution against the aforementioned diseases before its spread escalates into an outbreak.

In this regard – he detailed that not many cases have been confirmed as of present.

AEH has advised dressing in a manner that one gets more coverage, controlling mosquitos inside at outside of homes in addition to using mosquito repellant products as safety measures against dengue.

Meanwhile – they have advised washing hands after coming from outside and avoiding crowded places as safety measures against conjunctivitis.

AEH strongly urges to seek medical attention at the earliest if exhibiting symptoms of any of these diseases.

They also had advised those having fever. sneezing or coughing to seek medical attention as well and to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

Whilst the number of COVID-19 cases has started to decrease in the Maldives – the number of cases of viral fever being reported has increased.

Records publicized by Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in October show that the hospital’s flu clinic has received some 100 patients on a daily basis during the month.

IGMH’s consultant pediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal stressed that children and people with pre-existing medical conditions are vulnerable to developing serious complications from the flu. 

He urged the public to take preventive measures. 

Faisal urged people to remember to wash hands frequently, limit outsiders from visiting homes to see children and avoid crowds.
