The Military Justice System promoting fairness towards military personnel was inaugurated today.

The system was inaugurated by Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi during a special ceremony held at Bandaarakoshi today.

Minister Mariya was joined by Chief of Defense Force Major General Shamaal, Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef and senior officials from MNDF.

Speaking at the ceremony following the inauguration of the Military Justice System – Minister Mariya said that there was a lot of political influence within MNDF when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had assumed office.

Minister Mariya said that the Military Justice System is a result of President Solih’s administration’s goal to separate MNDF from political influence and restructure it under a set of written regulations which promotes fairness towards military personnel.

Noting that the use of military personnel for political gains has created a raft within amongst officers within the force as well de-valued the face of military personnel amongst the public – Minister Mariya said that capable officers resigning from the force is a great loss to the Maldivian government and people.

She also added that she hoped the Military Justice System which is based on natural justice principles will end the fear of losing their jobs faced by military personnel before and forge a path to carry out their duties in a just and transparent manner in conformity with human rights, integrity and respect.
