COVID-19: 131 new cases, 95 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 131 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 87,915.

According to HPA, the 131 new cases include; 28 cases from the greater Male’ region, 95 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and eight cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 87 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 85,823.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,836 active cases.      

There are 29 patients in hospitals.      

4,018 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,034 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 3 percent.

Maldives has recorded 243 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 394,574 people have received their first dose and 357,767 people have been fully vaccinated.
