An elderly patient admitted to the Addu Covid Management Facility passed away early Wednesday, marking the southern city’s fifth COVID-19 death.
Addu Equatorial Hospital identified the deceased as an 87-year-old Maldivian male.
He passed away at 01:31 am on Wednesday.
An official from Addu Equatorial Hospital told Sun that the patient – a resident of Feydhoo district – was admitted to the Addu Covid Management Facility last Wednesday.
His death marks the fifth COVID-19 in Addu, and follows two deaths in the southern island of GDh. Thinadhoo on Tuesday – a man above the age of 80-years from GA. Gemanafushi who was being treated at the Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility – and an 81-year-old woman from Thinadhoo who died in her home.
The latest fatality marks the sixth COVID-19 death this October, and increases the country’s death toll from the pandemic to 237.
Addu has 1,680 confirmed cases, including 216 active cases.
Meanwhile, 85,732 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed nation-wide, including 110 new cases recorded on Tuesday. 84,292 patients have since recovered.
The country currently has 1,192 active cases. 13 of the patients are hospitalized.
