An elderly woman from GDH. Thinadhoo died from COVID-19 on Tuesday night, marking the second death from the disease in the island within 24 hours.
Thinadhoo Council’s president Saud Ali identified the latest fatality as an 81-year-old woman.
“She was kept home. She was taken to the hospital after she became unresponsive. And the doctor examined her and said she was already deceased when brought in. She was tested for COVID-19 and the results came back positive,” he said.
Saud said the deceased had been fully vaccinated.
Her death follows the death of a man from GA. Gemanafushi above the age of 80 years who died on Tuesday morning while being treated on a ventilator at the GDh. Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility.
The two fatalities in Huvadhoo Atoll on Tuesday increases Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll to 236.
The country has recorded five fatalities for far this October.
Maldives has 85,732 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 110 new cases recorded on Tuesday. 84,292 patients have since recovered.
The country currently has 1,192 active cases. 13 of the patients are hospitalized.
