COVID-19: 95 new cases; 1,566 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 95 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 84,579.      

According to HPA, the 95 new cases include; 35 cases from the greater Male’ region, 61cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 2 case from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 93 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 82,769.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,566 active cases.      

There are 19 patients in hospitals.      

4,403 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,527 from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent. 

With the 95 new infections this Tuesday, 704 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

September 24: 61 cases 

September 23: 86 cases 

September 22: 142 cases 

Maldives has recorded 231 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of Monday, 391,960 people have received their first dose and 337,293 people have been fully vaccinated.
